Resonance of Ages: A Brotherly Duet

Acclaimed and passionate interpreters of early music, Thomas Dunford and Nicolas Altstaedt present a special musical journey that blends the delicate voice of the lute with the warm tones of the cello, creating an intimate and exhilarating musical conversation.

Focused mainly on the 17th and 18th centuries, with two of J.S. Bach’s cello suites (one in an original transcription for lute) and inventive French Baroque works by Marais and de Visée, the concert also bridges past and present through Romantic composer Henri Duparc and the reflective, modern soundscapes of Arvo Pärt.

German-French cellist Nicolas Altstaedt is one of the most versatile and sought-after artists today. As a soloist, conductor, and artistic director, he performs repertoire spanning from early music to contemporary, playing on period and modern instruments.

"Thomas Dunford’s supple technique, combined with his passion for jazz, allows him to embellish and develop written texts with an improvisatory freedom, casting a new light on early music... A true ‘Eric Clapton’ of the lute.” - Kate Bolton (BBC Magazine)
