The Song of Songs
The Old Testament Song of Songs is a highly evocative biblical poem on the theme of erotic love. A clear outlier in the Hebrew Bible, the poem has been interpreted in Jewish and Christian traditions as an allegory for the love between God and his people. This program will explore choral works based on the Song of Songs by such Renaissance masters as Orlande de Lassus, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and Tomás Luis de Victoria.
